AdX Wonder is our playground. This is where we test new ideas, try new concepts, build things for fun, and let our imaginations run wild...
Optimization kills wonder
I believe that optimization is the antithesis of creativity. It assumes that the best way to do something has already been found. It also assumes, in many cases, that the “best” way is the only way.Â
In the name of wonder
But if everyone is optimizing, how do we discover new things? Some projects should start because they invoke wonder and curiosity.Â
In a world where so much is optimized for profit, that is often impossible.Â
What’s the big aim?
The big aim is wonder, experimentation, and discovery. Some AdX Wonder projects may evolve to become businesses or profit-making ventures, some may evolve into community based projects or non-profits.
Some will be white elephants. Some will be like paintings. People will experience them and get filled with beautiful feelings.
The outcome of wonder
So the outcome is irrelevant, as long as there is no harm done and wonder (in all its meanings) fills the process.
And that right there is the magic; sometimes, the outcome of starting a project with wondering, is a whole lot of wonder. And when you have lots of wonder, all sorts of amazing things begin.
This is what we hope to achieve with the AdX Wonder Project.Â

“You cannot create wonder, the emotion, without starting from a place of wonder, the questioning. Either deliberately, or by happenstance, wonder, the emotion, comes from a process of deviating from the tried and tested.”

Here are the questions we use to guide us in our journey of wonder…
If we had no aim or result in mind other than fun, what would we create? Obviously, this is an absolute luxury, but once you see the results of this sort of thing, you realize that this is a great way to find solutions to a lot of problems.
Is there a problem that hasn’t been addressed yet because people are not seeing it or thinking it would be too costly, too hard to fix? Could we build a website that could jumpstart the process towards a solution or even solve the problem?
Can we take an inefficient way of doing things and create a solution that approaches the issue in a different way? Can we create an online platform that opens new, previously unseen doors for more people?
HERE THEY ARE
Here are our AdX Wonder Projects. Each one of them is an experiment and involves trying out new ideas, technologies, or concepts. Outcomes unknown unless otherwise stated...
Can we build an online platform that truly supports, encourages, and brings together small businesses in Western Massachusetts? Can we find a way of making the arts community a part of it?Â
We're currently working on the beta launch...
Getting all the content together has been hard. From the content we’re writing ourselves in-house to the content we have asked other people to write, it’s been a challenge.
We’ve moved the launch date so many times now, we now refer to the deadline for the beta launch as our Fastest Rolling Deadline. We just need to catch it before it moves again.Â
One, three & five years post-launch...
Still working on launch…
When we first launched Valley of Writers, in January 2022, Artist Dynamix didn’t even have a name yet. At first, it was going to be focused on literary events and writers in Western Massachusetts, then we looked at traffic patterns and realized more people were visiting the site from other parts of the USA and the world. And we pivoted on wonder.
Time for community...
The site has continued to grow organically, despite us having to squeeze in time to manage it between our other work. It outgrew it’s original server and, in May 2024, we moved it to a dedicated server.
We’d like to find an editor for the site so we can serve writers better and build a community that can support each other on the writing journey.
